FleckScore Worldcup 2026 in Austria
As part of the Federal Fleckvieh Show 2026 in Bergland, Lower Austria, the 3rd International FleckScore Competition was held. The competition attracted considerable interest, with 53 participants from nine countries, including 19 participants from Germany as well as several from Slovenia, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Official classifiers who contribute data to the DEA breeding value evaluation system were not eligible to participate. This included progeny classifiers from Austria, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic.
Preliminary Round in the Afternoon
The preliminary round took place on Saturday afternoon at the Berglandhalle. Participants had to evaluate five cows according to the FleckScore system. The aim was to achieve scores as close as possible to those assigned by the official reference classifiers.

Evening Final
The three top-scoring classifiers from the afternoon preliminary round qualified for the FleckScore World Cup final in the evening. Hosted by Johannes Penz from RZO and watched with great interest by the audience, the three finalists – Josef Gaugl from Austria, Fabian Schärz from Switzerland and Thomas Gschossmann from Germany – evaluated a Fleckvieh cow according to the FleckScore system. After each trait was assessed, the participants’ scores were projected onto the large screen and their deviations from the reference scores were calculated.
Josef Gaugl impressed the audience with his exceptionally fast and accurate assessments, securing a clear victory ahead of Fabian Schärz from Switzerland and Thomas Gschossmann from Germany.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved, and congratulations to the three best FleckScore classifiers in the world!
